33 koti devas,gods

People having either no knowledge or incomplete knowledge say that there are 33 crore gods in Hinduism whereas there is only One God and 33 deities:

The eight Vasus, the eleven Rudras, and the twelve Adityas—–these are thirty one. And Indra and Prajapati make up the thirty three–The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: 3: 9: 2

Any number, whether 33 million or 33 crore or 33 thousand, except 33 is incorrect.

Which are the eight Vasus?

Fire, the earth, the air, the sky, the sun, heaven, the moon, and the stars—–these are the Vasus; for in them all this [universe] is placed (vasavah) (वसवः). Therefore, these are called Vasus.

Katame vasava ityagnischa prithivi cha vaayuschantarikhang chadityascha dayuscha chandramascha naksatraani chaite vasava eteshu hidang sarvam hitamiti tasmad vasava eti ||

The Vasus transform themselves into the bodies and organs of all beings, which serve as the support of their work and its fruition, and also into their dwelling places. These Vasus enable beings to live (vaasayanti) (वासयन्ति).

Which are the Rudras (रुद्राः)?

The ten organs in the human body, with the mind as the eleventh. When they depart from this mortal body [when a man dies], they make [one’s relatives] weep (rud) (रुद). Therefore, they are called Rudras (रुद्राः)

The ten organs mentioned in the verse refer to the five sensory and the five motor organs

Which are the 12 Adityas?

“There are twelve months in a year. These are the Adityas because they move along carrying (aadadaanaah) (आददानाह) all this (life and all its phases) with them. Therefore, they are called Adityas”

From the daily routine of a man to his longevity and the results of his works, everything is carried on by time (12 months, year by year).

Now in Hindi-

कहा जाता है कि हिंदुओं में 33 करोड़ देवी-देवता हैं जिनकी सभी लोग अपने अपने मतानुसार पूजा करते हैं। कुछ लोग इसे ऋग्वेद में दिए गए श्लोकों से जोड़ते हैं तो कुछ इसे स्वामी विवेकानंद के एक कथित कथन से जोड़ते हैं जिसमें उन्होंने कहा था कि देश के सभी 33 करोड़ देशवासियों को देवता मानकर निस्वार्थ भाव से मानवता तथा देश की सेवा करनी चाहिए। वास्तविकता में यह एक कोरी कपोल कल्पना है जो पूर्णतया असत्य है।

हिंदू धर्म के अनुसार 33 करोड़ देवी-देवता हैं, ऐसा माना जाता है। प्राचीन काल से असंख्य देवी-देवताओं को पूजने की परंपराएं चलन में है। इस संबंध में सामान्यत: सभी की जिज्ञासा रहती है कि क्या वाकई में हिंदू धर्म में 33 करोड़ देवी-देवता हैं।� संस्कृत में कोटि शब्द के दो अर्थ होते हैं, एक अर्थ है प्रकार (Types) और दूसरा अर्थ है करोड़। देवी-देवताओं के संदर्भ में भी कोटि शब्द का पहला अर्थ \’प्रकार\’ ही काम में लिया गया है।

हिंदू धर्म के इन 33 देवी-देवताओं की गणना इस प्रकार हैं। देवताओं की इन 33 कोटि में आठ वसु, ग्यारह रुद्र, बारह आदित्य, इंद्र और प्रजापति शामिल है।

12 आदित्य – अंशुमान, अर्यमन, इंद्र, त्वष्टा, धातु, पर्जन्य, पूषा, भग, मित्र, वरुण, वैवस्वत और विष्णु

8 वसु – आप, ध्रुव, सोम, धर, अनिल, अनल, प्रत्यूष, प्रभाष

11 रूद्र – मनु, मन्यु, शिव, महत, ऋतुध्वज, महिनस, उम्रतेरस, काल, वामदेव, भव और धृत-ध्वज

2 अश्विनी – अश्विनी तथा कुमार (कुछ लोग इंद्र तथा प्रजापति के स्थान पर अश्विनी कुमारों को मानते हैं।

इस प्रकार कुल 12 आदित्य + 8 वसु + 11 रूद्र + 2 अश्विनी कुमारों को मिलाकर कुल 33 कोटी देवता होते हैं।

ASHOK is a fake character pushed inside history of India during British time,as all
contemporary literature has not a single instance of ASHOK as we have been taught
On the contrary Pushyamitra is a noble & worthy king of importance in the history,
which has been deliberately kept away for some unhealthy purpose by so called
political historians.
So it is a necessary to give proper weightage to Pushyamitra by removing deliberate
falsification of history .

  Read main article in first page in Hindi in http://www.pparihar.com and see who was pushyamitra. He was not Ashok but he is one who saved Hindu dharm from Ashok’s conversion of Buddhism era.

There was Ashoka & there was Pushyamitra….both were present…..Rick pillars of Ashoka are testimony to his era….likewise historical references for Pushyamitra are present……. Don’t spread nonsense that Ashoka was a pseudo figure

  Agree. Many pseudo hindu names are everywhere who are either Muslim or cheap converted Christian spreads lies against Sanatan Dharm and Bharat Varsh. These are Kalyugi demons worse than real Christianity and real Arabic Muslim. Converted people are worse as they want to prove their conversion.
