ANCIENT INDIAN MATHEMATICS and today’s mathematics
1. Multiplication: Ancient Indians just placed two letters side by side [ यक [“y” and “k” yk] = य x क
2. Division: same style used even now . See arrow mark
3. Indicating sides of Triangle [bhujas] : same system as today
4. Trignometry: Sine [jyā, ज्या], cosine [kotijyā, कोटिज्या], Tangent lsparshajyā, स्पर्शज्या] etc. are same but names are different.
5. Huge numbers: Let’s say they wanted to write some huge number. They would write कजतम. It meant [कxजxतxम = 17x24x32x41], the position of the letters in the alphabet. Ka is the 17th
Note that for the sides of a triangle, they used alphabets like we use now, x, y, etc….
