LUCKNOW: ‘The British origin of cow-slaughter in India’, with some British documents on the anti-kine-killing movement 1880-1894, is the latest book by Dharampal, and speaks about one of the most significant movements in India, that of anti-kine-killing, by the British, during the nineteenth century. The book will be officially released on Tuesday by Dr S Kalbe Sadik.
Dharampal is a renowned author whose works have consistently challenged the prevalent mainstream understanding and belief about the nature and functioning of the Indian society and policy before the arrival of the British. The book’s introduction summarises the main events of the anti-cow slaughter movement of 1880-94, some documents related to the movement and an epilogue. The book counters the general impression that Muslims in India eat beef, which is perhaps a myth perpetuated by the British.
