Original polo was from India not British.

#SangaiFestival : One of the oldest festival of ancient Manipur, the oral history takes the origin of the festival to 8000 BC or even more. Sangai is an indigeneous species of #deer (pic2) who are shy in nature.

India is considered the cradle of modern polo and Manipur (Kangleipak) is recognised as the Origin of Modern Polo. Origins of Polo (Sagol Kanjei) #Sagol mean horse #Kanjei Mean hockey stick can be traced to 3100 B.C. from ancient book of Manipur/Kangleipak called “Puya”.

The Royal Chronicle of Manipur, Cheitharol Kumbaba also gives an account of a Polo match between the friends of Ngonda Lairen Pakhangba who ascended the throne of Manipur in 33 A.D. On that occasion he introduced his queen Laisana to the royal crowd as a proof of his marital fidelity to her.

Manipur has been referred number of times in ancient historical text of #Mahabharata (~5500 BC) in connection of #Arjuna and queens he married. #RaasDance of Krishn is among the most popular ones in Manipur which are showed in the festival.
